The Turnkey Approach Is Savvy

What to Ask Your Office Moving Company

Moving is stressful enough, but moving an office?! With multiple people, IT infrastructure, and an entire snack fridge?! That can be overwhelming for anyone.

Picking the right office relocator isn’t a simple task, but it doesn’t have to be a nerve-racking nightmare. Let’s take a look at what red or green flags you should keep an eye out for in a commercial moving company. First off:

What’s the difference between an office mover and a regular mover?

Truthfully – they’re not all that different. However, what you’re paying for with a commercial mover is the expertise to successfully & safely transport your most important office equipment – computers, heavy equipment, delicate instruments, IT servers, etc. Let’s cover the six steps you should take when you’re on the hunt for the perfect office relocation partner.

Referrals & Recommendations

Reach out to your colleagues who have undertaken this task before and have found some success. At the very least to see if they can warn you about some things to look out for. For Offisavvy, we are contacted most frequently by individuals who were referred to us by other satisfied customers. If we’re not a good fit or not able to service the area where your office is located, we’d be more than happy to assist you in any way we can.

Unfortunately, there are times when you don’t have a friend who has worked with a relocator in the past and you’ll have to search local listings of trusted office movers. This brings us to Step Two!

Check Their Reviews

Services such as Glassdoor or Google my Business can help you get an idea of how a company handles its customers. Visit the mover’s website and dive into the testimonials. Search their social media profiles and see how they communicate with customers who may have questions or complaints. These steps should give you a more complete image of each company and help you pick the right one.

Schedule a Meeting with a Representative

It’s important to get some one-on-one time with a sales representative from your company of choice. Don’t rely on on a professional email signature and a snazzy website to win you over. Once you’ve got a sit-down meeting, it’s time to ask the tough questions.

Request a Move Plan and Custom Quote

Any moving company worth their salt will give you a breakdown of how they charge for a move – whether it’s per employee workstation, per square foot, or a combination of the two.

Be sure to schedule a walkthrough to allow the mover’s team to assess any tricky corners or furniture that would need to be handled with care. With this assessment, the moving team can tailor a move plan and quote to your office and work with you to make it work with your budget.

Ask for Their Insurance

You need to verify that they have you covered in the unfortunate case of something going wrong during your move. Also, it’s worth asking if your items are also covered IN-TRANSIT. It’s common that your items are insured in your old and new facilities, but it’s not always the norm for that to be the case while your desks and tchotchkes are on their adventure to their new home.

Once you’ve made your way down this list and have everything in place, your mover should be able to take it from here and help you get settled in your new workspace. If you have any more questions, Offisavvy is here to help. Check out more of our videos and dive in further with our Learning Center
